A typical underpad production line is a highly automated continuous system. It consists of the following core units, which roughly correspond to the process flow:

  • Raw Material Handling System
Includes multiple unwinding stands for mounting and feeding rolls of nonwoven fabric, PE film, etc. These are usually equipped with automatic tension control and automatic edge guide devices to ensure smooth and stable material travel at high speeds. Advanced models may also feature zero‑speed automatic splicing for non‑stop roll changes.

  • Absorbent Core Forming System – the heart of the line that determines product performance.

    • Pulverizing & Forming: A high‑efficiency hammer mill breaks down the pulp board into fluff. Then, in the core forming unit, the fluff is mixed with Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) dispensed by a precise dosing mechanism to form a uniform absorbent core.

    • Optional process: Some high‑end lines can use airlaid paper directly instead of fluff pulp to produce ultra‑thin products.

  • Laminating & Converting System

    • Material bonding: The top sheet (nonwoven), absorbent core, and backsheet (PE film) are firmly laminated using a hot‑melt adhesive applicator or ultrasonic technology.

    • Embossing & setting: The laminated web passes through embossing rolls to create aesthetic patterns and enhance bond strength.

    • Cutting & folding: A final cutting assembly precisely cuts the continuous web to the set dimensions. Then, a folding device folds each cut piece into its final shape; some lines can also integrate a 90° turn‑over mechanism to optimise product orientation.

  • Packaging & Ancillary Systems

    • Packaging section: Includes stacking, counting, and wrapping units.

    • Quality inspection: Integrated sensors and camera inspection systems monitor the product on‑line and automatically reject defective items.

    • Control system: The entire line is coordinated by a central control cabinet based on a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) with a touchscreen HMI (Human‑Machine Interface) for full automation.

⚙️ Main Technical Features & Parameters

While specific data vary by manufacturer and model, the following table summarises typical industry ranges.

Parameter Typical Range / Description
Production speed (pieces) 350 – 550 pieces/min
Installed power 75 – 185 kW
Power supply 3‑phase, 380V, 50Hz
Machine dimensions (L×W×H) (17–25) × (1.5–6) × (1.8–4.5) m
Production yield ≥ 96% – 98%
Control system PLC + touchscreen HMI
Drive system All‑servo or variable‑frequency drives
Safety standard CE certified

In summary, the underpad production line is a complex system integrating precision mechanics, automatic control, and on‑line inspection. Its core strength lies in using all‑servo drives, PLC control, and automatic inspection to maintain consistent product quality while operating at high speeds – typically several hundred pieces per minute.
